Artist Statement
The process of growth is understood as the accumulation of elements to a parent entity resulting in maturation over time — A bringing together that which allows one to thrive. When considered in regards to the human experience these elements can be characterized as the events and decisions that occur throughout ones lifetime that wether we are conscious of it or not, permanently alter our path. This almost chronological understanding of growth and emphasis on the impact of even a small gesture is fundamental to Lyrica’s practice.
Functioning within the language of minimalism, her works investigate these considerations as the expanding forms chronicle not only her experience of time but also personal growth occurring in conversation with each piece.
These motifs manifest visually in Lyrica’s pieces as diaphanous stained forms and ambiguous fields of lined pattern. Both are results of a process of making that is based on a heavy investment in time and a continuous improvisational relationship of intervention and response with the work.
Materially the artist interested in the unrefined state of matter, working almost exclusively with unprimed substrates and a limited palette. Paying homage to the natural world who’s material gifts sustain and inspire her practice while continually contemplating the elemental, fundamental, and that which comes before.
