Lyrica’s line based drawings investigate the process of growth as the singular continuous mark accumulates over time. The methodology of making employed in this series requires a heavy investment in time (denoted by the number following the title of the piece) and demonstrates how the menial can become meaningful as small gestures compound to grow larger than the sum of their parts. Conceptually the artist draws parallels between this process and the linear nature of the human experience as the decisions we make throughout our lives, both advertently and otherwise, begin to define us and dictate our path forward. This path, although individually varied, ultimately shares a singular and unavoidable destination. Therefore the line forming these convoluted compositions is connected as a loop — further referencing the cyclicality of life, growth, and death in the organic world. These existential considerations are however heavily distilled into a highly simplistic artwork allowing the piece to function on both a conceptual and aesthetic level.
